How to renounce your Italian citizenship

Italian citizens residing in this Consular jurisdiction, may choose to renounce their Italian citizenship, if they wish to do so, as long as they are a citizen of at least another country.  The applicant must submit a formal request to renounce their Italian citizenship, pursuant to art. 11 of Law no.91/1992.

The following documents are required to submit your request:

  • Italian birth certificate (known as estratto per riassunto dell’atto di nascita): original, issued by the Italian comune where you were born, or where your birth was registered;
  • proof of residence in this Consular jurisdiction;
  • US passport and certificate of naturalization, or document proving your current citizenship if not American (i.e. a valid passport);
  • Italian passport (and any other Italian IDs you may have);
  • Receipt of payment for the amount of EUR 250.00.

The payment must be made by international bank transfer using the information below:
