{"id":667,"date":"2023-06-16T15:04:04","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T19:04:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consnewyork.esteri.it\/?page_id=667"},"modified":"2026-06-16T10:52:58","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T14:52:58","slug":"elective-residency","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consnewyork.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/visas-to-enter-italy\/elective-residency\/","title":{"rendered":"Elective residency"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>RESIDENCY VISA REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The residency visa allows entrance into Italy to individuals who belong in one of the following categories:<br \/>\n\u2022 applicants with high self-sustaining incomes and financial assets who have a real necessity to stably residing in Italy and who can demonstrate a steady and adequate income (not from subordinate work) and other financial resources;<\/p>\n<p>Applicants with high self-sustaining incomes should provide:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/formulario_nazionale_visti2.pdf\">Long term Visa Application Form<\/a> duly filled in and signed at the Consulate. The applicant must appear in person. About the payment of the Visa fee please read <a href=\"\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/visas-to-enter-italy\/visa-fees\/\">Visa fees<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Passport-style photo (3,5 cm x 4,5 cm or 1&#8221;3\/8 x 1&#8221;3\/4, full front and white background);<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Passport or valid travel document valid three months over the planned stay in Italy. The passport will be kept and returned with the visa, if approved.<\/p>\n<p>For non US citizens: Alien Registration Card or a valid US INS visa and letter from US government letters i.e. Advanced Parole, IAP66, I20 and copies (any visa except B1-B2);<br \/>\nMoreover for non-US citizens proof of residence such as driving license or State Income tax;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Proof of financial means: documented and detailed guarantee of substantial and steady economic resources deriving from private income (pension or annuity), properties, stable economic and commercial activities. Please provide official letters from banks, financial consultants, financial institutions, U.S. Social Security institutes, etc. and last 2 years of your Income Tax Return. Please note that this visa DOES NOT ALLOW ANY WORK ACTIVITIES IN ITALY. Therefore, you CANNOT finance your residence in Italy through any type of work. The substantiation of financial means for residency must be directly in the applicant\u2019s name and cannot be derived from ANY FORM OF EMPLOYMENT. For family applications, each applicant must demonstrate sufficient financial resources, typically around \u20ac31,000 per person.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> Proof of lodging: contract of purchase\/lease of a house or an apartment in Italy for the entire period requested. Please note that: \u00b7 the lease, rental contract, or deed must be in the applicant\u2019s name, must be REGISTERED before the local authorities (Agenzia delle Entrate) and must be presented in original. \u00b7 if renting or leasing, the applicant must present an original copy of a \u201cContratto di Locazione ad Uso Abitativo\u201d, complete with proof your landlord has registered it with the Agenzia delle Entrate (the Italian Tax Authorities).<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> A letter explaining the reasons of your intention to move to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Residency visa can be also issued to dependent spouse and minor children and dependent children over 18 living with their parents, assuming that the applicant can demonstrate adequate financial assets to support them.<\/p>\n<p>This visa is issued solely to those applicants who are planning to move permanently to Italy and it does not allow the recipient to work.<\/p>\n<p>This consular administration has full authority to evaluate and request additional documentation, if deemed necessary, in addition to what is submitted.
