ATTO NOTORIO FOR MARRIAGE IN <\/strong>ITALY OF ITALIAN CITIZENS RESIDING WHITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF ITALY IN NEW YORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Italian citizens residing within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in New York (States of New York and Connecticut) and registered in A.I.R.E. , wishing to marry in Italy, need to contact the Vital Records Office (Ufficio di Stato Civile)<\/strong> email newyork.statocivile@esteri.it<\/a> in order to request the post marriage banns.<\/p>\n

Once the appointment is scheduled, the applicants need to contact the Notary Office (Ufficio Notarile) by email<\/a> in order to arrange an appointment for the Affidavit<\/strong> (Atto Notorio)<\/strong> on the same day. Please note: the appointments need to be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance by emailing the Application Form<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Affidavit (“Atto Notorio<\/strong>“), sworn to by four witnesses<\/strong>, who must be over 18<\/strong> and unrelated<\/strong> to either of the two parties or to each other. The sworn witnesses must personally appear, with a valid ID (Passport), before the Italian Consular Officer in the U.S. having jurisdiction over your place of residence.
\nThe affidavit will state that the witnesses swear under the penalty of perjury that they personally know the U.S. citizen, that they personally know that the U.S. citizen is a resident of the U.S., that they personally know that the U.S. citizen has never been married<\/strong> or is now divorced<\/strong> or widowed<\/strong>, that to the best of their knowledge the U.S. citizen is free to marry<\/strong> in accordance with the local laws, and that there are no objections for the U.S. citizen to be married in Italy. The Affidavit must be executed within three months from the date of marriage.<\/p>\n

The consular fees<\/a> for the Atto Notorio for marriage are indicated in art. 23 and art. 25.<\/p>\n
