{"id":1646,"date":"2023-07-11T12:51:59","date_gmt":"2023-07-11T16:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consnewyork.esteri.it\/?page_id=1646"},"modified":"2023-08-01T15:05:34","modified_gmt":"2023-08-01T19:05:34","slug":"atto-notorio-for-marriages-in-italy-italian-citizens","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consnewyork.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/servizi-notarili\/atto-notorio-for-marriages-to-be-celebrated-in-italy\/atto-notorio-for-marriages-in-italy-italian-citizens\/","title":{"rendered":"Atto Notorio for marriages in Italy &#8211; Italian citizens"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>ATTO NOTORIO FOR MARRIAGE IN <\/strong><strong>ITALY OF ITALIAN CITIZENS RESIDING WHITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF ITALY IN NEW YORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Italian citizens residing within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in New York (States of New York and Connecticut) and registered in A.I.R.E. , wishing to marry in Italy, need to contact the Vital Records Office (<strong>Ufficio di Stato Civile)<\/strong> email <a href=\"mailto:newyork.statocivile@esteri.it\">newyork.statocivile@esteri.it<\/a> in order to request the post marriage banns.<\/p>\n<p>Once the appointment is scheduled, the applicants need to contact the Notary Office (Ufficio Notarile) by <a href=\"mailto:newyork.notarile@esteri.it\">email<\/a> in order to arrange an appointment for the <strong>Affidavit<\/strong> (<strong>Atto Notorio)<\/strong> on the same day. Please note: the appointments need to be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance by emailing the <a href=\"https:\/\/consnewyork.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/formforattonotoriomatrimonio.doc\">Application Form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Affidavit (&#8220;<strong>Atto Notorio<\/strong>&#8220;), sworn to <strong>by four witnesses<\/strong>, who must be <strong>over 18<\/strong> and <strong>unrelated<\/strong> to either of the two parties or to each other. The sworn witnesses must personally appear, with a valid ID (Passport), before the Italian Consular Officer in the U.S. having jurisdiction over your place of residence.<br \/>\nThe affidavit will state that the witnesses swear under the penalty of perjury that they personally know the U.S. citizen, that they personally know that the U.S. citizen is a resident of the U.S., that they personally know that the U.S. citizen <strong>has never been married<\/strong> or <strong>is now divorced<\/strong> or <strong>widowed<\/strong>, that to the best of their knowledge the U.S. citizen is <strong>free to marry<\/strong> in accordance with the local laws, and that there are no objections for the U.S. citizen to be married in Italy.
