Fraudolent Job Offers

This Consulate General receives frequent reports of fraudulent job offers posted on online sites in Italy or by restaurants or hotels in New York or elsewhere in the United States. Often, the addresses provided may be checked by using google or the white pages It often occurs that false phone numbers or fax, often with prefixes outside of the State of New York, are provided.

Common to all these offers are requests 1) of personal data (CV, photocopies of passports, full contact details), 2) of cash advances (for visas or the purchase of travel tickets), to be sent via Western Union or direct bank transfers. We recommend extreme caution before replying to these requests, primarily because ‘the data may be used for fraudulent documents or other scams, and may cause these systems to transfer money to not identified stakeholders.
