Codice fiscale

Applications for a certificato di codice fiscale can be submitted only by residents of this consular district. Both Italian and non-Italian applicants can send them, only by email, to newyork.codicefiscale@esteri.it.

Please read these instructions carefully, as incomplete applications, or applications submitted by other different means, will not be processed.

INSTRUCTIONS

Certificato di codice fiscale is always issued free of charge.

Each email must include only one application, and each applicant must use his/her own email account.
The subject line must show the applicant’s name in the following format: LASTNAME, Name: certificato di CF.

Applicants must attach (no links, no embedding) the following documents as PDF files to their emails, addressed to newyork.codicefiscale@esteri.it, sent only from Monday to Thursday, from 8am to 3pm.

If applicants hold the Italian citizenship in addition to that of other countries, they must apply as Italian citizens, and use an Italian passport.

DOCUMENTS

Italian nationals

  1. Application form A44/8 must be filled-out on the computer (handwritten forms are not acceptable), then printed, signed, and then scanned as a PDF file;
  2. PDF scan of unexpired Italian passport;
  3. PDF scan of the driver’s license or other document to prove residence in this consular district.

If the Applicant has been issued a Codice Fiscale previously by Agenzia delle Entrate, it must be included on the application form as well as in the body of the application email.

Please note that, according to Italian law, a new certificato di codice fiscale issued to an Italian national will be based on the name of the applicant at birth.

An Italian citizen applying for a certificato di codice fiscale for a minor child will have to attach to the email:

  1. application form (AA4/8) in the same way as described above (filled-out on the computer, then printed, signed, and then scanned as a PDF file) including the address where the minor child resides, and the information as it appears on the passport of the minor child, and will check the box “Application for a Third party” and type “10” in the box “Applicant Type Code“
  2. PDF scan of the unexpired Italian passport, or the (long-form, if from the US) birth certificate of the minor child;

ISSUING THE CERTIFICATO DI CODICE FISCALE

Once issued, the certificato di codice fiscale (including a specific bar code, which can be used to activate SPID), will be emailed to each applicant as a PDF file, which can be printed and used as needed, for all purposes permitted by law.

The applicant must check promptly the accuracy of the data shown on the document, and inform us immediately if a typo is present, by contacting the Consular Assistance Office at Assistenza.newyork@esteri.it, as the office can amend a certificate only within a few hours.
